ipad pro 10.5 inch or 12.9 inch

ipad pro 10.5 or 12.9 review for photo and video editing

This post is for those looking at either the iPad pro 10.5 inch or 12.9 inch model. More than likely you already know the specs of the iPad pro 10.5 and 12.9 models and are just looking for advice on which one to buy, based on size. Specs for each can be found at the bottom of this post.

I researched YouTube and google, looking for answers on size between the iPad Pro 12.9 vs 10.5 size comparison. iPad pro 10.5 inch or 12.9 inch.

For most of my work I use my trusty 15″ i5 Macbook pro from 2010 with a solid state hard drive by Samsung. If you’re computer or mac is running slow, I can’t recommend installing a solid state drive (SSD) enough.

For a lot of my YouTube video production I film on my iPhone and edit video on an older iPad using Lumafusion from the app store.

For more advanced video editing for clients or green screen work I edit on my 2011 iMac 27″ i7 using final cut pro X.

As I started working on a few more YouTube channels, mobility was more important to me. I needed something more than the size of an iPhone screen. I also got sick of being tied to my iMac in my studio.

Research shows that more people are using iPads for editing photos and video now more than ever. Since I really only use the Macbook pro for researching online and YouTube, it seemed to me I could get more done faster and easier with an iPad pro model. I WAS RIGHT.

The iPad pro 12.9 vs 10.5 size comparison was underway.

The technology in an iPad pro is much faster in every way, even when going against my 2011 27″ iMac with 32GB ram for rendering and exporting movies, by at least 50%.

WHAT iPad PRO DID I GO WITH?

ipad pro 10.5 or 12.9After long debate and many customer reviews later, I went with the 10.5″ iPad. Unfortunately I will not be able to help you with this. You should really check them out on your own if you are unsure.

I was going to order the 12.9″ iPad pro since I will be using it for art and video editing most of the time. The larger the screen, the better, I thought.

Wanting to save money, and seeing most people were very happy with their 10.5″ ipad pro screen size, that is the route I took. I am very happy with it.

As you research, you will find that half the users love the screen size of the 12.9″ for what they do, while others really find the 10.5″ to be perfect. I find the 10.5″ to be perfect for me and I have used laptops and pc’s and iMacs of all shapes and sizes over the last 25 years.

for editing video I use LumaFusion and couldn’t be happier. It works just great on the ipad pro 10.5″ and has sped up my editing process tremendously.

If you are on the fence on whether or not to get an iPad pro I would say YES! These iPad pros are so much better than iPads just a couple years older. I can’t recommend them enough.

Now my workflow for most YouTube channels is to film with my iPhone and edit on my iPad pro 10.5″ Once editing is done I upload right to YouTube from the iPad pro.

If you have any questions or have chosen one over the other, let us know why.

I recommend going to the Apple store and seeing them side by side to help you make the decision.
