How to get rid of a staph infection that keeps coming back

staph bacteria infection is often mistaken for acne

How I got rid of a staph infection that wouldn’t go away!

WHAT IS A STAPH INFECTION?

Staph infections are caused by staphylococcus bacteria, known as staphylococcus aureus. These types of germs are commonly found on the skin or in the nose of healthy individuals.

Most of the time, staph bacteria cause no problems or result in relatively minor skin infections.

Most people fight off staphylococcus bacteria with no problem, even if it enters the skin via a cut or some type of wound.

The staph infection I had was so bad, it came back a few days after finishing antibiotics. I wasn’t able to get rid of the staph infection until bossting my immune system by following the steps in this post…keep reading.

Staph infections can turn deadly if the bacteria invade deeper into your body, entering your bloodstream, joints, bones, lungs or heart. A growing number of healthy people are developing life-threatening staph infections.

I had a staph infection that 2 rounds of antibiotics in the course of a month could not cure. This staphylococcus bacterial infection refused to die and came back a few days after finishing antibiotics!

Staff infection treatment

Treatment for staphylococcus aureus involves antibiotics and drainage of the infected area by a doctor. Some staph infections no longer respond to antibiotics because a lot of people don’t finish their antibiotics!

ALWAYS FINISH your antibiotics even if you feel or look better!

By not finishing antibiotics, you’re allowing the bacteria to build defenses against said antibiotics, which makes the bacteria stronger and more resistant. Certain strains of bacteria are now immune to antibiotics for this reason.

The choice of antibiotic to get rid of staph infection depends on the type and severity of staph infection.

Some antibiotics used to treat staph infections are:

  • cefazolin,
  • cefuroxime,
  • cephalexin,
  • nafcillin (Nallpen),
  • oxacillin (Bactocill),
  • dicloxacillin,
  • vancomycin,
  • clindamycin (Cleocin),
  • rifampin, and
  • telavancin (Vibativ).

Combinations of antibiotics and other antibiotics can also be used. Some staph strains, such as MRSA, are resistant to many antibiotics. MRSA is really bad. I had that too.

WHAT ARE staphylococcus bacteria SYMPTOMS?

I’m going to tell you what I did to get rid of my staff infection for good after taking antibiotics, but first, I want to tell you the symptoms and what to look for and what a staff infection feels like.

You should never pop these “pimples” on your own. It will cause the staphylococcus bacteria to spread rapidly (within hours) to other areas of your skin or clothing!

Symptoms of Staph infection

Staph infections can range from minor skin problems to endocarditis, a life-threatening infection of the inner lining of your heart (endocardium). As a result, signs and symptoms of staph infections vary widely, depending on the location and severity of the infection.

How Do Staph Infections Spread?

Staph bacteria can spread through contaminated surfaces and from person to person. Staph infections are highly contagious and found mostly everywhere. People carry staph bacteria from one area of their body to another — passing it to other people — via dirty hands or fingernails.

Staph bacteria lives on your skin, in your nose, under fingernails, on countertops and especially hospitals. Staph bacteria is everywhere.

Staph infections can spread from person to person in group living situations (like college dorms.) The spreading of staph infection happens when people with skin infections share personal things like bed linens, towels or clothing. Staph bacteria is highly contagious!

Washing clothes normally does not kill staph bacteria. You need to wash clothing and bed sheets in hot water with bleach or lysol laundry sanitizer (what I use.) This is just one step in killing staph bacteria or MRSA.

A staph infection isn’t something to take lightly. It is very difficult to kill staphylococcus aureus and it’s often mistaken for acne. A doctor can confirm the bacterial infection by taking a sample and running tests.

Skin infections

Skin infections caused by staph bacteria include:

  • Boils. The most common type of staph infection is the boil, a pocket of pus that develops in a hair follicle or oil gland. The skin over the infected area usually becomes red and swollen. If a boil breaks open, it will drain pus. Boils occur most often under the arms or around the groin or buttocks.
  • Impetigo. This contagious, often painful rash can be caused by staph bacteria. Impetigo usually features large blisters that may ooze fluid and develop a honey-colored crust.
  • Cellulitis. Cellulitis — an infection of the deeper layers of skin — causes skin redness and swelling on the surface of your skin. Sores (ulcers) or areas of oozing discharge may develop, too.
  • Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. Toxins produced as a result of a staph infection may lead to staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. Affecting mostly babies and children, this condition features fever, a rash and sometimes blisters. When the blisters break, the top layer of skin comes off — leaving a red, raw surface that looks like a burn.

How does a Staff Infection start?

My experience with staph infection and Impetigo mirrored everything I read about online. One moment my face was fine with no blemishes and the next moment I felt an itch on my face, like a mosquito bite that didn’t go away.

I had a very small pimple form in the course of an hour and thought nothing of it. The itch was irritating and lasted into the night. I knew at that point something was wrong.

I never had anything like this. I’ve always been healthy!

Since the itch was very persistent, I thought it was an ingrown hair. I washed my face a couple extra times, dabbed some rubbing alcohol on the “pimple” and went to bed.

The next morning the “pimple” was noticeably larger and still itched. The pimple (staff infection) had a white tip and black center core. In 2 days time it was getting worse and more annoying. I knew something was very wrong.

That 2nd night I had enough and wanted relief. I sterilized a needle and opened the pimple so it would drain (never do this.) This was a big mistake, which I didn’t know at the time.

The staph infection was about to spread like wildfire

Itching was less after I drained the area and cleaning with rubbing alcohol, but my troubles were just beginning.

The next day at work, a coworker asked what was wrong with my cheek. It felt like a rug burn, had a glaze to it and felt mildly sticky, which is where it burned.

Later that night, my face started to itch again with 2 other pimples popping up. I made an appointment the next day for my doctor.

I had impetigo. The 3rd morning, the right side of my face was encrusted in a thin golden crust. It still felt like a rug burn with 4 or 5 more itchy white-head pimples. The skin had a tight texture like sunburn / dry skin like a scab. I’ve never had anything like this before.

Impetigo and how to treat it after you have antibiotics
Impetigo has a golden hard crust

A visit to the doctor confirmed it was Impetigo, which I never heard of. I had a staph infection.

Most of us have staph bacteria living on our skin and are able to fight it off. It was very difficult for me to get rid of this staph infection.

Early 2019 was bad for me. I had pneumonia for the first time in my life (3 weeks recovery.) The pneumonia and antibiotics taken to fight the pneumonia weakened my immune system, which probably allowed the staph bacteria to enter the picture.

First pneumonia and now 2 bouts of staph infection. Antibiotics were used for all 3 situations, which brought my resistance to nothing.

Because of pneumonia and 2 staph infections, I was on antibiotics for 1.5 months with no break. The antibiotics destroyed all my good bacteria, which didn’t help me to fight anything off. I had close to no immune system due to constant antibiotics.

My doctor prescribed a topical antibiotic and oral antibiotic to get rid of the staph infection. A full 10 days of antibiotics took care of the staph infection, so I thought.

After 4 days of being off antibiotics, I felt that same itch again, with another small pimple showing on my face. I was livid but did not attempt to clean it myself, after remembering how the staph infection spread before.

I went to the doctor again and another culture showed it was indeed another staph infection. The staphylococcus bacteria was still living on my skin.

Another 10 days of antibiotics cleared me up, with another small pimple forming after a week of finishing the 2nd round of antibiotics. This was now ridiculous! Once in your system, staph bacteria is very hard to kill.

I started searching on ways to kill staph bacteria. I needed to avoid antibiotics and boost my immune system.

Here’s what I did to get rid of staff infection

hibiclens antimicrobial cleanser will kill bacteria, staph bacteria and mrsaI took a standard shower using body soap and washed again with Hibiclens. Hibiclens safeguards against germs up to 24 hrs, so it’s a great choice to fight germs, fungi & bacteria during sports, school, work and home. Hibiclens antibacterial soap is gentle on sensitive skin and used in hospitals by doctors and surgeons for its antiseptic properties.

Hibiclens is a powerful surface wound cleanser to keep hands and skin germ free. Hibiclens kills bacteria, viruses and fungi and continues to work for up to 24 hours after washing. You can use Hibiclens frequently.

I left Hibiclens on my skin for 5 minutes before washing off. My skin felt cleaner after using. My doctor recommended Hibiclens, which is where I heard of it. You can get it at most grocery stores but I get it online at Amazon…you get much more for less. I use it every day and have it auto-delivered every other month from Amazon. Hibiclens was huge in the battle to get rid of the staph infection.

using garlic to kill staph infectionI took garlic supplements and doubled up on them…2 garlic pills a day. Not only does garlic support heart health, but the allicin in garlic kills staphylococcus bacteria. I did a lot of reading on what other people were doing and garlic supplements kept coming up in the fight against staph infections.

These garlic pills do not cause burping and do not make your breath smell like garlic. Take with food. Make sure it has allicin. This Garlinase 5000 is the best! These garlinase pills were huge in the fight to get rid of staph infection.

digestive advantage is the best probiotic and kills staph bacteriaI added Digestive Advantage probiotics to my diet. Antibiotics kill all bacteria in your body, both good and bad. You need good bacteria to support your health and digestive system. Without this beneficial bacteria, not only will your immune system suffer, but your digestive system is affected as well.

It’s important to take probiotics, especially while on antibiotics. I needed to replenish the good bacteria that was destroyed by antibiotics. I tried a few different probiotic brands including that really expensive one and Digestive Advantage is the best I have used. I took 2 pills a day to build up the good bacteria in my system and aid in the fight to get rid of the staph infection.

nutribullet pro is the best blender for healthy smoothieWhenever I make a smoothie for dinner or lunch with the Nutribullet blender, I add a clove of fresh garlic. I know that sounds like a lot but you don’t taste it. One whole clove of garlic maybe twice a week in a smoothie. Garlic will help you out in ways you can’t even imagine. Garlic kills staph infections.

Another thing is to cut out sugar as much as you can. Not only is sugar very bad for you, but it feeds bacteria. Sugar helps the staph bacteria infection grow stronger.

Another thing that strengthens the staph infection is smoking. Did you know that staph bacteria HATE nicotine? The staph bacteria builds walls around itself to protect against nicotine. This wall also protects the staph bacteria from the antibiotics you are taking!

You will also need to change out the loufa you use in the shower at least once a month. If you wash using a washcloth, use a new one every couple days. I didn’t use the same wash cloth on my face as I did my body.

kill staph infection and mrsa with lysol laundry sanitizerI use lysol laundry sanitizer. This is HUGE in winning the war against staph bacteria. Lysol laundry sanitizer Kills 99.9% of bacteria like Staphylococcus Aureus & Klebsiella pneumoniae, simply add to rinse cycle. Contains 0% bleach, works even in cold water. Gentle on most fabrics including whites & color. Works in all standard & HE machines and is suitable for children’s clothes, gym clothes, underwear, towels, bedding and delicates. We put it in a Downy ball.

I also bought clorox wipes and wiped down all door handles, my steering wheel, phone, ipad and anything else I would have touched, each week. I wanted to get rid of any staph infection bacteria that was lingering on things we touch in the house.

These products will definitely help you to get rid of a staph infection / staphylococcus bacteria. These steps helped me and the staph infection has not returned! It’s been 5 months! The same steps can be taken to get rid of MRSA.

Follow these steps and I’m confident you will get rid of the staph infection.

You may need to be on antibiotics first to knock out the staph infection. Always check with your doctor! Do not take what I’m writing for medical advice. See your doctor. I would highly recommend you use these same practices once your staph infection is gone.

You can take probiotics while taking antibiotics (you always should.) I still use Hibiclens and the lysol laundry sanitizer and always will.

60% of the population has staph bacteria living in their nose. Most people have it on their skin. If your immune system is weakened and you come into contact with staph bacteria (it’s everywhere, especially in hospitals), you could be in for a long healing period and can even turn deadly.

I never thought I would get hit with a staph infection. I’m healthy and never thought it would be so hard to get rid of. After a month, my immune system is much better than it was, having introduced the good bacteria back into my system using the products I talked about.

Antibiotics are great and sometimes needed. Remember, not only do antibiotics kill the bad bacteria, but all your good bacteria. You need to get that good bacteria back as fast as you can. It is highly recommended you take probiotics while taking antibiotics. Digestive Advantage are rated as one of the best probiotics since they travel all through your intestines where needed. Most probiotics are digested in the stomach, which do you no good at all.

Good luck and Good Health!

  1. Hi, i’ve been dealing with the same problem for quite awhile now and i’m very frustrated because it keeps on coming back after finishing the antibiotics! Gonna try doing what you did and hopefully it will work for me too. Thanks for the advice!

    1. Hi Natasha! I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this and I definitely know how frustrating it is. The staph infection would not stop! I was afraid to shave since it seemed the smallest cut would open me up to infection. I still haven’t had any issues at all after doing everything I wrote about. The probiotics are necessary to get your good bacteria back up! A lot of probiotics don’t work but these do. The Hibiclens is also a must. I just went all out because I was sick of dealing with it and it can be deadly. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll be great!

      1. Thanks so much Steve! I have a question though, do you still use the Hibiclens until now? Or can we just use it until the infection is gone and stop using it?

      2. You can do whatever you want. I still use it but not as much…maybe once or twice a week. I like knowing that I am killing all bacteria that may be on my skin. I have a bottle shipped to me every 2 months via Amazon.

  2. Hi Steve just came across your write up on staph. I have been struggling for 3 years going to doctors taking antibiotics and the infection returns. I never had skin problems I always had beautiful skin my infection started much the same way yours did. I’m going to try your regimen thanks so much for the information. Rock On 🎸 Best, Cynthia

    1. Hi Cynthia! So sorry to hear about what’s going on. I’m confident in what I did. Happy to report it has not returned after doing what I wrote about in this post. I really hope the same for you. Do what I did and please let me know how you’re doing. One thing I also do, as a precaution is use Hibiclens on my face in the shower and let it sit for a few minutes after I shave. In case there are any little nicks from shaving I want to make sure no open wounds allow any infection in. With Hibiclens it will protect you for hours as long as you don’t use soap to wash it off, such as washing your hands. Maybe you could bring some Hibiclens to work for your hands. Anyway, another thing I do, since MRSA lives in the nose of most people, is put hibiclens on my finger and just wash / rinse the inside of my nose…not entering too much. They key for me was taking antibiotics to knock out the infection and then keep it gone by doing what I did. Good luck.

  3. Well I don’t feel so alone now! I had a staph (impetigo) infection 7 years ago right after getting pregnant. Nothing awful, but it left a nice scar on my side!

7 years later (thank you mIchigan qurantine) I ahve been sick with everything (except Covid, I’d rather have covid instead of THIS) since lockdown went into effect. My suspicion is every virus and bacteria has grown stronger and now my once a week trip to the store has exposed me to 100x more toxic crap than ever before!

Anyway, I went to my father in law’s house after he went into the hopsital from malnutritiion (again, thank you quarentine, the poor man starved to death in his house too depressed to eat!) so it was absolute filth, and I set to work cleaning (hoping he’d come back alive) and the next day I noticed a few itchy spots. Figured they were flea bites . . . he had a dog afterall.

2 days later went back to fully clean and the next day my rash had EXPLODED. My husband was convinced it was poison ivy (despite there being none growing yet), it DID look just like it!

I couldn’t find any good photos online for 2 weeks. Was it chicken pox? Measels? Hives? Everything I read on Impetigo only said it moderately itched and didn’t burn.

It of course was blistering and oozing, and by now I was convinced maybe it was scabies! It seemed to ahve a track pattern . . . so I concluded it MUST be a bacterial infection and the oozing was spreading it (and my husband got a few spots on his arm too).

It was too late. It had spread across my entire left side of my torso, engulfed my right arm and was starting down my thighs. It itched like a mother F-er and burned like hell.

BUT . . . despite as MUCH as I touch my face in a given day, it only spread to my jaw, and didn’t stay there long.

I use a wrinkle cream, and I am 100% convinced THIS HEALED MY RASH on my face . . . it doesn’t have retinol (makes me break out). I tried some tonight on my arm, hoping it works.

Also, I found a leather conditioner (fully natural with beeswax and essential oils) worked amazing on soothing the rash and slowing the itch.

And NewSkin liquid bandage. Helps stop the ooze. And Collidial Silver cream (antibacterial, it instantly popped a few giant patches that never oozed and only grew larger. After popping I put liquid bandage on).

benedryl max dose allowed me 4 sane hours of sleep.

What cured my first infection 7 years ago? . . . . .. Grapefuit Seed Extract pills.

Yup, took 2-3 days and GONE. I had a devil of a time getting some ordered this time but finally started dose last night. Hopefully by the end of this weekend I can be sane again . .

Anyone else feel like ants are crawling under their skin once 10pm rolls around?? I swear it’s like clockwork.
